She was watching an interview video on the phone. The man doing the interview was asking the same question to all the people. "What are you most curious about in this world?" The answers were interesting and different from each other. One was curious about space, while another underwater. Men were curious about women, women were curious about men. There were people wondering how to make money, and also the ones wondering how to spend money.
Someone said, "I wonder about people. Why do they walk, or talk? Why do they wonder about things they don't need? I would like to understand why this is so."
After the video she watched ended, she looked at the time. The hour was late, and the day ended before she could complete the work she had to do.
She was watching videos online, but she felt like she was out of control. She wrote "How to get rid of internet addiction?" There were those who said dopamine detox should be done. Some experts were saying that a limit should be set, there should be certain minutes permitted and then it should be closed.
No matter what, the buck stops with the person herself. She felt like she was in a trap. Even if she wanted to buy slippers, she would go online. She was getting lost on the internet among the thousands of options. Eventually, she was forgetting why she is on the internet. It was no longer a matter of making the process easier, but a distraction. She was deceiving herself saying she will just have a look, but once she clicked, she was falling in a trap that she couldn't get out of. It was like a fly caught in a carnivorous plant. She was struggling in the swamp she had entered, and the methods at ers disposal were not enough to save her.
She was believing that she had a lot of fun scrolling through social media. However, this joy was ending when she saw the time lost when she put the phone down. She realized that only regret remained from the joy. She would watch something on her phone before going to sleep at night. When she woke up in the morning, the first thing she is doing was take the phone she put under the pillow. At such times, she was feeling as if she had not slept at all and was drugged by the effects of some kind of anesthetic drug.
It was as if she was lost in that black hole called social media, therefore, she needed a fresh start. She neither read a book nor was aware of what was going on in the world. In the neighbor countries people were at war, and one side was committing genocide. People were saying boycott, but she didn't know what was being boycotted and why.
She woke up the next morning and said, "I won't touch to phone today." The first thing she did when she woke up was to go to the bathroom instead of taking her phone. A feeling of emptiness arose within her. She cleaned the house and started to take care of her accumulated chores. Her hand was constantly reaching for the phone, but as soon as she picked it up, she was throwing it to the other end of the couch. Since she couldn't take his eyes off her phone, she thought she should do something different.
She turned on the old television that hadn’t been used in the house for a long time, and came across the news channel. At first she couldn't understand what was going on with what she saw. "Why are they bombing? What's going on?" She started to listen attentively. Children, elderly, women and men were being killed. At that moment, she felt as if she was under the influence of a nightmare. It was like when you wake up with a weight on you but you can't get up. Hunger, genocide and death were portrayed as normal. She felt like she couldn't breathe when she saw the images. She wanted to scroll what she saw on the television screen with one finger, just like she was doing on the phone, but it didn't work.
After what she saw, she wanted to go for a walk. It was the first time in a long time that she went out without her phone. Since she did not take the phone with her, she felt as if the umbilical cord between the mother and her baby had been cut. She walked a little outdoors. She was about to enter that famous coffee shop to drink her favorite coffee, but a young man handed her a piece of paper.
'Each cup of coffee becomes a bullet and hits a child!'
There was also a picture. BOYCOTT… PROTEST…
They gave the paper to someone else, but the woman took a quick look at the paper while looking at the phone in her hand. She crumpled it up and threw it away saying, "This is my choice, not your business."
She thought, how could someone be so deeply asleep while others were reacting so awake, and she really wondered about it. "How can some come from the other side of the city and try to do whatever they can, while others prevent the people trying to do something?" She became sad, and her shoulders slumped. She felt as if they had tripped someone who was running.
We need to get rid of addictions that prevent us from seeing the truth... We need to avoid phones, computers, shopping, cigarettes, so all the useless things, she thought. It was as if the hearts were lost in fun and couldn't get out of that depth.
But how could this happen with all the distractions and entertainment that take one's mind?
It was necessary to learn to avoid useless things...
Then, Mastering in Avoidance…
